The Saint Francis ‘Red Flash’ are located in Loretto, a sleepy little college town in the mountains of Western Pennsylvania. Last year was a dream season for the team winning their first ever NEC title (They won all 19 of the games that they played against fellow NEC opponents.) and also earning their first NCAA Tournament invitation ending up playing in the Tucson Regional.
The Red Flash ended the season with a 49-11 overall record. They were 10-1 at home and 22-4 on the road. The team is led by Head Coach Jennifer Patrick-Swift who was the ECAC Coach of the Year.
The team was loaded with talent on both sides of the ball. Jordan Seneca set the team’s season records for homers with 22. Much of the early season she was leading the entire country in home runs hit. Cheyenne McKee also had a good bat with 72 hits and a .387 BA. Pitcher Ethel Santai tied the team’s season record for wins, with 19 and an impressive 1.68 ERA. Ketarah DeVries also joined the list of team record setters with 52 career wins.
The Red Flash competed in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history as the No. 3 seed in the Tucson Regional. In game one of the regional the Red Flash came up against a tough South Carolina team and lost to them 12-2. In game two against New Mexico State even though they trailed early they came back to win 8-4. With that win they got a rematch against South Carolina but suffered a tough 3-1 loss to them and were eliminated from the tournament.
