After winning back-to-back Championships and then being knocked out in a shocker early last year in the playoffs by Georgia the Gators where ready to go this year. They had a pitching staff that shut down almost any team they came up against ending the season with a 0.81 team ERA.
Their pitching staff was so loaded that pitcher Aleshia Ocasio 1.51 ERA, 8-2 who would have been the ace of almost any other team often unselfishly played other positions just to get in to the game. Kelly Barnhill 0.51 ERA, 26-4 lead the staff. She also had an impressive 359 strikeouts. The other main starter was Delanie Gourley 0.71 ERA, 22-4. They also had some big bats like, Amanda Lorenz .388 BA, 11 HR and Kayli Kvistad .368 BA, 9 HR.
In the playoffs things got started with them hosting the regional round defeating Florida A&M 9-0 (5-innings), Oklahoma State 2-0, then losing to Oklahoma State 0-1 before beating them 5-0 getting the chance to move on to the Super Regionals round defeating Alabama 2-0 and 2-1 after losing their first game 0-3. Next up was the WCWS where they defeated Texas A&M 8-0 (5-innings), LSU 7-0 and Washington 5-2 making it to the Championship where they fell to Oklahoma by scores of 5-7 and 4-5.
