After having a good season in 2016 despite all the turmoil the team was going through when everything got taken care of and players that didn’t want to be there left and head coach Ehren Earleywine got a vote of confidence to continuing being the team’s coach I thought that they were ready to have a great season. But at times during the season it seemed like the wheels were coming off of the program with them ending up with a 7-16 SEC record and 29-28 record overall.
The loss of Emily Crane and Sami Fagen to graduation along with the transfers of pitchers Paige Lowary to Oklahoma and Tori Finucane to Minnesota was just too much to overcome. Lowary ended up playing a big part in Oklahoma’s winning the WCWS again this season.
It was a bad year on both sides of the ball for Mizzou with sporadic hitting and pitching that took a big step down from the previous season.
Once in the playoffs the team made a very quick exit in the Eugene Regional losing 2-7 to Wisconsin and 4-5 to Illinois-Chicago.
I’m sure that coach E and the Mizzou players will be looking for much better results when the 2017-18 season rolls around.
