In the first game of the 2017 WCWS Florida came out on fire and never looked back to run rule Texas A&M. Florida sophomore pitcher Kelly Barnhill combined with Senior Delanie Gourley who came into the game in the fifth inning to close things out and secure the 8-0 run rule win for Florida.
Texas A&M looked like they were just having an off day both with the pitching first by Trinity Harrington and then Samantha Show who both struggled on the mound with Harrington taking the loss allowing four earned runs and five hits in two innings pitched.
The mercy-run win for Florida marked the first five-inning game at the WCWS since the Florida Gators defeated Baylor, 11-0, in 2014.
In an all SEC match up Florida will next face LSU in the bracket winners game on Friday.
LSU made it to the game by defeating UCLA in a close 2-1 win that had several close and possibly wrong base running calls that had an affect on the game. Allie Walljasper got the win for LSU while UCLA’s Rachel Garica took the loss in a nice pitching effort on her part.
UCLA will next take on Texas A&M in Saturday’s elimination game.
