Second Round Wrap Up:
Once again let me start by giving a wrap up of how I done with my second round picks.
I didn’t do too good this time around with my picks. I went only 1-3.
What a great game in the opening of the second round of SEC Tournament play. Alabama pitcher Alexis Osorio had a no-hitter going into the seventh inning with a 1-0 lead when Texas A&M batter Tori Vidalis homered one over the left field fence to tie up the game and head the game into extra innings. For Texas A&M Trinity Harrington done a good job too thru 6 2/3 innings until being replaced by Samantha Show. Alabama’s Bailey Hemphill homered in the top of the 10th off of Aggies pitcher Payton McBride to take the 2-1 lead and eventual win. The game was all about the pitching of Alexis Osorio, when she’s getting the corner strikes called she is almost unhittable like in today’s game.
Pitching wins games and that was proven in the Ole Miss win over #1 Florida. In a almost divine performance from Ole Miss pitcher Kaitlin Lee Florida couldn’t get on the scoreboard and lost 2-0. Ole Miss head coach Mike Smith once again dedicated the win in a post game interview to his 102 years old grandfather who passed away before yesterdays game which he also dedicated the win in that one to him.
Auburn and Kentucky were in a scoreless pitching duel until Auburn’s Kendall Veach hit a home run in the 6th inning to give Auburn a 2-0 lead. Auburn pitcher Kaylee Carlson got the complete game win.
The last game of the day between host team Tennessee was close being tied 2-2 until in the top of the 5th inning when LSU punched four runs across the plate to take a 6-2 lead that ended up being the game’s final score. I guess being the host team isn’t an advantage since this makes the last 5 years that the host team has been knocked out of the tournament in their first game played.
Third Round Picks:
And then there was four teams left.
First up in round three’s semi-finals games is Alabama vs. Ole Miss. The games move from The SEC Network over to ESPNU with this game starting at 3 pm. The outcome of this game is gonna be dependent I feel largely on who can go as starting pitcher. Alabama’s Alexis Osorio has really thrown a lot of pitches already in this tournament and I don’t think they’ll want to risk her arm with the upcoming NCAA Playoffs. Plus can Kaitlin Lee go again and be effective? This game could go either way but Ole Miss has made me a believer that they have something special happening with this team so I’m picking them to win it.
In the second semifinals tournament game it will be Auburn vs. LSU. The game is scheduled to start at 5:30 pm also on ESPNU. It’s hard to pick against Auburn who seems to always find a way to win in big games. One of the reasons is Clint Myers. Before head coach Clint Myers came to town Auburn had never won a SEC Championship but since his coming they’ve won two in a row and going for a record third this year. Another is the fact that Auburn leads the SEC in double plays which help to get them out of a lot of jams and end opponents scoring opportunities. LSU is a team that always seems to have a slump near the end of the season then shift in to another gear and win come playoff time. I’m gonna pick Auburn but I wouldn’t be surprised if LSU ended up pulling out a win in this game.
