It what had the feel of a playoff game the top two teams in the country went at it head-to-head Wednesday night before a big crowd of 2509 people.
Things got off to a shaky start for both pitchers with each team scoring one run in their half of the inning before things settled down and went scoreless for the next 91/2 innings until in the bottom of the tenth when Seminoles player Alex Powers hit a walk-off home run to win the game.
Florida sophomore pitcher Kelly Barnhill (21-1) took the loss despite pitching a single-game record 21 strikeouts and
notched the most innings in a single game with 10.1 pitched. While Florida State’s Megan King got the win after relieving starting pitcher Jessica Burroughs in the fifth inning.
The game offered a good taste of what great softball lies ahead in the upcoming playoffs.
