COLLEGE STATION – The No. 5 Texas A&M Softball team hits the road for a three-game series at South Carolina beginning Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Texas A&M enters the weekend with a 29-3 (7-2 SEC) record, while South Carolina is 22-12 (2-7 SEC) on the year.
Riley Sartain leads the team with a .417 average and is tied for the team lead in home runs at seven with Tori Vidales and Kristen Cuyos, who has driven in a team-high 28 runs.
The Aggies hold a 1.22 team ERA, led by Trinity Harrington (8-1, 1.12 ERA) and Lexi Smith (9-0, 1.17). Samantha Show holds an 11-2 record and a 1.08 ERA.
The Maroon and White are coming off a 5-1 victory over Texas State Wednesday night behind a one-hit performance by Show. The East Bernard, Texas, native gave up an unearned run in the first inning, before retiring the last 19 batters in order. The Aggie offense mustered three runs in the fourth on RBI doubles from Riley Sartain and Sarah Hudek and a RBI single from Kristen Cuyos. Tori Vidales belted a two-run dinger in the fifth, her third home run in five games.
The Gamecocks are led by Mackenzie Boesel, who is hitting .347 with six home runs and 25 RBI. In the circle, Nickie Blue is 8-5 with a 2.65 ERA with 54 strikeouts.
The Aggies and Gamecocks have squared off 33 times in series history with Texas A&M holding a 19-14 advantage.
Since joining the SEC in 2013, Texas A&M leads the series 4-3. In their last trip to Columbia in 2014, the Aggies won game one of the series, but fell in games two and three.
