ATHENS, Ga. — The No. 16 Georgia softball team (26-4, 2-1) put pressure on the defense Monday night to claim a 3-1 win against the No. 17 Kentucky Wildcats (19-6, 1-2) as well as its first SEC series of the season.

The Bulldogs capitalized on four Wildcat miscues, as just one of the three runs allowed by UK’s Meagan Prince (8-3) was earned. The top of the lineup did most of the damage for Georgia, collecting six of the team’s seven hits with Cortni Emanuel and Sydni Emanuel putting up two each. Alyssa DiCarlo and Lacey Sumerlin followed the sisters with a hit apeice, as Sumerlin also walked three times.

Brittany Gray (16-2) continued to pitch well in the circle, throwing the complete game with three hits allowed. The Cats’ only run came on a home run from Alex Martens in the sixth. Gray walked one while striking out four.

Two errors in the first frame brought in Georgia’s first run, as S. Emanuel reached on an error before scoring on an error later in the inning. Georgia went up 2-0 after two, as S. Emanuel again forced a Kentucky mistake, allowing C. Emanuel to come home on a two-base error.

S. Emanuel recorded her second run of the day in the fourth, as DiCarlo posted an RBI double to right field, giving the Bulldogs a three-run cushion. Minus the home run in the sixth, the Wildcats wouldn’t make it past second base the entire night.

Georgia hits the road this weekend, heading down to Baton Rouge for a conference series against the LSU Tigers, as game one gets underway on Friday at 7 p.m. ET.
