In their Friday night game South Carolina proved that its hard to overcome multiple fielding errors and win a game.
Even though the team had posted their season bests in hits and doubles for a total of 13 hits in the game it still wasn’t enough as they lost to Northwestern, 6-4 in the opening game of the Garman Classic Opener.
South Carolina had their chances but left nine runners on base in the game. South Carolina had a 4-1 lead before Northwestern mounted a comeback in part thanks to errors that led to 3 of Northwestern’s runs.
Northwestern pitcher Morgan Newport picked up the win in relief, tossing the final 6.2 innings and allowing two earned runs on 10 hits. Gamecock Nickie Blue got the loss, giving up four runs, two earned, on six hits in 1.2 innings. She also struck out three batters.
