STARKVILLE, Miss. – It will be home sweet home for the Mississippi State softball program this fall, as the Bulldogs will play four of their eight fall contests within the friendly confines of Nusz Park.
MSU head coach Vann Stuedeman announced the Bulldogs’ fall slate on Tuesday, which is comprised of four-straight contests within State’s new $6-million home, which opened last spring. The fall will end with a four-game road trip to North Carolina.
“We’re excited about getting back on the field and spending our first fall at beautiful Nusz Park,” Stuedeman said. “This team has been working hard and I know they’re excited to get out there. We’re not only looking forward to seeing our team in action, but also to seeing all of our amazing Bulldog family in the stands this fall.”
The Bulldogs will open their fall season with a doubleheader at Nusz Park on Saturday, Oct. 1, against Chipola College, the 2015 NJCAA National Champions and the 2016 NJCAA National Runner-Ups. State and Chipola will begin play at noon CT, with the second game following 30 minutes afterwards.
A day later the Dogs will welcome Southern Union State Community College for a 3 p.m. showdown at Nusz.
One of MSU’s tougher tests will come in its final home game of the fall slate, as the Bulldogs take on 2016 NCCAA National Champion Mississippi College. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m., on Friday, Oct. 7.
The Maroon and White will close out its fall schedule in Cullowhee, N.C., at the 2016 Fall Friendly, hosted by Western Carolina. Play begins on Friday, Oct. 14, with State taking on Anderson University at 2 p.m., and then Western Carolina at 4:30 p.m. MSU will battle Lincoln Memorial University (10 a.m.) and Walters State CC (12:30 p.m.) to close out the fall.
